Teacher Profile

Mr Liam Richardson, BA

German

I began learning German at the age of 12, continuing through GCSE and A-Level before achieving a first-class honours degree in German, Spanish, and Dutch at the University of Sheffield. Since 2008 I have studied German consistently, and since 2017 I have also worked as a professional German-English translator, using the language daily in a professional context. This mix of academic and practical experience allows me to bring both depth and real-world application to my teaching.

German is spoken not only in Germany but also in Austria and Switzerland, offering opportunities to connect and serve across three countries. In recent years the German-speaking Church has grown, with a number of new, Reformed congregations being established. Learning German equips Christians to engage with believers there and to support the spread of the Gospel. Germany is also the land of the Reformation, where God raised up Martin Luther and others to recover the truth of His Word. By learning German, students can appreciate this rich heritage more deeply, even reading Reformation texts in the original language.

I am a father and my wife and I home-educate our three young children. Within a Christian homeschooling environment, German study is more than an academic pursuit: it is a way of stewarding our gifts for God’s glory. My aim is to cultivate curiosity, discipline, and joy in language learning, while keeping Christ at the centre.

I am delighted to be part of PX and enjoy helping students develop not only strong language skills but also a deeper appreciation of how learning German can serve God’s purposes in the world.

I offer the following PX Classroom course:

Key Stage 3 German

This introductory, one-year course does not require any prior knowledge of German. It helps students lay strong foundations in vocabulary, grammar, and communication. For an Upper Key Stage 3 student (ages 13 to 14), this one-year course should be enough to proceed to a GCSE course.

Parents can expect lessons that are well-prepared and supportive, and which encourage steady progress.

Students will find an environment that is both engaging and challenging.

GCSE & A-Level German

In time, I hope to take classes through to GCSE and even A-Level.
