Teacher Profile

Mrs Jacqueline Hicklin, MSci, PGDE

Mathematics

I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a first-class Masters degree in Mathematics in 2009. In 2011 I completed my Professional Graduate Diploma in Education in Secondary Mathematics Education at the University of Strathclyde. My degree gave me a love of Mathematics – thanks to the contagious enthusiasm of my Maths professors – and I love to pass that on to a new generation of budding mathematicians.

I have experience in a variety of different teaching environments, which equips me well to support all kinds of students. Teaching in mainstream secondary schools gave me experience in teaching Maths at many different levels. Teaching in the Royal Blind School for 15 months gave me valuable experience in working with smaller groups of young people, and in dealing with complex additional support needs. Teaching in a mission school in Africa during my Gap Year saw me relishing the freedom of teaching about Mathematics as part of a Christian worldview. Discovering and describing the order in the world we see around us using mathematical equations is such a clear evidence of the Great Designer who made us and all that exists. In August 2025 I was therefore glad to start part-time work as a Maths teacher for one of the Melville-Knox Christian Schools.

I have had a significant career break caring for my four children and have enjoyed supporting them in their learning. I have had experience of one-to-one tutoring for both younger secondary students and students preparing for exams.

Studying Mathematics and Science is “thinking God’s thoughts after Him” and is a very important part of a Christian education. Mathematics is also an essential skill for modern life, and a prerequisite for many college and university qualifications. I am passionate about making a subject often perceived as boring and repetitive into something satisfying, intelligible, and fun! Studying together as a community is a great way to learn from each other and make good friends, and I look forward to getting to know new students and helping them learn to love Maths like I do.

I offer the following PX Classroom course:

Key Stage 3 Mathematics (Part 1)

This is a one-year course.

I intend to continue this the following year with Key Stage 3 Mathematics (Part 2), which completes this stage in the curriculum.

This course starts promptly on 29th August, but newcomers are still welcome to join up to the fourth lesson on 19th September 2025.
