Teacher Profile
Dr Debra Dunstan-Sewell, BSc, PhD
Physics
I have a BSc & PhD in Physics, both from the University of Bath, and carried out aerospace research for eleven years. For seven years in a Christian primary school I taught Numeracy, Literacy, and Science in a God-centred way. Following this, I home educated my daughter up to and including A-Levels. She received four A* grades in A-Level Physics, Maths, Further Maths, and Chemistry.
I’m an experienced private tutor and have been described as “kind, encouraging, patient, not at all scary and very understanding”. I teach all ages and have experience at teaching students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and maths phobia. My aim is always to enable students to pass their exams at the highest grade of which they are capable, whilst noticing the hallmarks of God’s design.
My lessons are relaxed and friendly in order to maximise learning. In this supportive environment my students get excellent results.
I offer the following PX Classroom courses:
This KS3 course is designed to be completed over three years, with each year covering separate modules that can be taken in any order.
- Younger students can follow the full three-year programme, ensuring they are well prepared to progress into the PX IGCSE Physics Classroom.
- Older students, who may have less time available, can take the course for one or two years and be provided with a summer self-study programme to help them transition smoothly into the PX IGCSE Physics Classroom.
- This flexible approach allows students to study at a pace that suits their individual learning needs while building a strong foundation in Physics.
- This course does not require any prior knowledge and is accessible to all students. However, it is expected that students will also be working at KS3 Maths at the same time.
This is a two-year course aiming to be exam-ready for Edexcel. But the course is organised in such a way that it can also be taken in one year if the student is willing to study Year 1 and Year 2 in parallel.
This is a two-year course (or one-year if only the AS-Level is required) aiming to be exam-ready for OCR. AQA is also supported.
- If the PX Classrooms timetable does not work for you, or you need supplementary or other help, we can come to our own arrangements.
- At any level from KS2 to A2 Level.
- Follows the mutually agreed exam board and specification.
- Delivered live through Zoom in a fully interactive manner.
Testimonials
I think the thing I like best about Dr. Dunstan-Sewell’s teaching is that she is so patient and happy to explain things until I really understand and can remember them.
Dr. Dunstan-Sewell is a great teacher and makes learning Science a lot of fun. I’ve actually enjoyed the subject for the first time ever!
You will be pleased to hear that Noah was awarded a 9 in his IGCSE Physics! Thank you very much indeed for all you have done for him over the last two years through PX Classrooms.
Dr. Dunstan-Sewell is tutoring my son for IGCSE Physics with PX Classrooms. He has found the organised format helpful and Physics has become one of his favourite subjects.
My twelve-year-old son loved Dr. Dunstan-Sewell’s lessons. She is calm and encouraging. Her approach is logical and easy to follow.
My fourteen-year-old daughter is doing so much better … than when she was attending school. The great part is that my daughter really enjoys the lessons, and her confidence has grown. Dr Dunstan-Sewell’s teaching is excellent. We have great confidence that this is the most appropriate preparation for our daughter’s GCSEs in two years’ time.
My son has thoroughly enjoyed his PX KS3 Physics. My only regret was not starting him on the course a year ago! Knowing that Physics is a complicated subject, we assumed it would be too difficult for our (then) 12 year old, but Dr Dunstan-Sewell teaches in a very engaging way and simplifies some of the basic tenets of Physics to make them understandable. The lessons are engaging and enjoyable, and my son has said he loves coming away feeling he’s learning something new and interesting every week. Physics has become one of his favourite classes. Dr Dunstan-Sewell has been approachable and sets just the right balance, so that the work is interesting and challenging, but not overwhelming. We’re very grateful for the PX Physics classroom.
John really enjoys his IGCSE Physics and definitely wants to continue.
My son has learnt lots of new things in KS3 Physics.
