Important Note

This PX Classroom will only take place if a sufficient number of students reserve a place. To reserve a place, submit your order for this course as if you were going to buy it, but select 'Direct Bank Transfer' (not card payment) and only transfer the money much later once the Teacher has confirmed to you that the course will indeed take place (Do not create a new order in order to pay as that will purchase a second place on the course!). If the course does not run, there will be nothing to pay and your order will simply be cancelled.

Course Overview

This course is ideal for children in upper Key Stage 2 (ages 9 to 11) who would like to learn Science in a group with a focus on understanding more more how plants and other living things work. This would be a useful introduction to Science for children who plan to enter any of the PX KS3 Science Classrooms, not just the PX KS3 Biology Classroom. This course is separate to, and independent of, the KS2 Human Biology course but it would work well for children who have already taken the KS2 Human Biology course or who hope to take the KS2 Human Biology course starting in January 2026.

Course Method

The lessons include slides, short relevant video clips, and interactive sessions. These interactive sessions include looking at parts of a flower, pulling a mushroom apart in the fungi session, and growing seeds in different conditions. The focus is on learning about plants mainly, but also about fungi and other living things and their habitats. Parents will be informed in advance (via the Google classroom) of items needed. Homework is set which often involves practical activities such as growing plants from seeds or cuttings.
