Politics AS-Level (2027 exam) – Term 3a (April 2027)

Important note

Do not purchase Term 3a if the student intends to study for the full A-Level (purchase Term 3b instead)! Term 3a is for students taking the AS-Level exam.

Course Overview

This course covers the full content of the Pearson Edexcel AS-Level Politics specification. Terms 1 to 3a cover the AS-Level course (UK Politics and Government only). Terms 3b to 6 (the “A2” terms) are for those students who intend to go further and sit the A-Level exams instead of the AS-Level exams. Thus, PX AS-Level Politics is a one-year course and PX A-Level Politics is a two-year course which includes the AS-Level course.

No prior knowledge is formally required for enrolling on this course. But as the main form of assessment is essay-writing, a qualification in English language is desirable. Students should also have an interest in UK Politics and aim to keep up-to-date with current developments.

Course Method

Classes involve discussions on issues related to the content covered in the previous lesson and an introduction to the part of the specification to be covered in homework during the following week, directed particularly at developing key conceptual understandings. They also involve guidance and shared practice in writing exam-style essays.

The aim is to create a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere in which students feel free to ask questions and to share ideas with each other. Guidance is given on note-making, and templates are provided for students to use in structuring their own notes. Students should expect to spend six to seven hours per week on note-making and other set tasks.

For AS:

• Essentials of UK Politics and Government (ISBN 9781352012309).

For A2:

• Essentials of Political Ideas (ISBN 9781350382381) (for Term 3b).
• Essentials of US Politics and Government (ISBN 9781350337718) (for Terms 4 & 5).

Tests of exam-style questions are set at the end of each topic and marked by the teacher. A bank of questions is also provided for students who wish to do extra practice and answers to these can also be submitted to the teacher for marking.

If notice is given in advance of a lesson that a student will not be able to attend, a video recording may be made, to be temporarily available after the lesson.

Course Details

Term 3 covers revision for Papers 1 and 2. It comprises 11 lessons (two per week until the last week). Each lesson lasts 60 minutes.

This PX Classroom is held on Mondays at 9.45am and Tuesdays at 10.15am (London time zone), starting on Monday, 12th April 2027. The last lesson is due to be on Tuesday, 17th May 2027.
