Course Overview

This course covers the content for the Edexcel AS-level Mathematics specification. It is a one-year course intended for students who have already achieved a minimum of grade 7 at GCSE or IGCSE Mathematics. Before booking this course, it is highly recommended that you check that you have access to an exam centre which takes external candidates for Edexcel AS-Level Mathematics.

Students who wish to study for the full A-Level can choose not to take the AS-Level exam and instead continue their studies for a further year.

The PX AS-Level Mathematics Classroom provides live teaching and workshop support with content that is designed to meet the particular needs of the students. There are two classes per week of 90 minutes each. The emphasis is on thinking mathematically and developing a “toolbox” of different approaches to problem-solving. The course uses past-paper questions throughout to improve exam technique and familiarise students with the format of the final assessment.

Course Method

Students will need a scientific calculator and their own copy of the following:

  • A-Level Mathematics Edexcel Complete Revision & Practice (CGP; ISBN 9781782948087)
  • A-Level Mathematics Edexcel Exam Practice Workbook (CGP; ISBN 9781782947400).

Written homework tasks are set each week and are self-marked. Topic tests are set at intervals and are marked by the Teacher. Each week there is also an optional Drop-In Workshop session to provide extra help to those who would like it. There is no extra charge for this workshop.

The lessons can be temporarily recorded on video for students who miss the lesson due to sickness, provided the Teacher is informed before the lesson. Please note that, for an improved learning experience, students are asked to turn their cameras on during the lesson. If there are reasons why this would not be appropriate, please contact the Teacher directly.
