Course Overview

This course provides an overview of British history, c.1000-1600 with some aspects of European and World history. It focuses on the causes and consequences of the following:

  1. The Norman Conquest of England
  2. The rise of Islamic Empires, 632-1258
  3. The Crusades, 1095-1291
  4. Medieval life, the Black Death, and the Peasants’ Revolt
  5. The rise of Lollardy in England and the European Reformation
  6. Religious change in Tudor England and other parts of the British Isles to 1600

This is a one-year course and does not require any prior knowledge.

Course Method

Classes involve discussions on issues related to the content covered the previous week and an introduction to the topic to be covered in homework during the following week, directed particularly at developing key conceptual understandings.

The aim is to create a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere is which students feel free to ask questions and to share ideas with each other.

Short homework tasks are set with optional extra tasks for those who wish to dig deeper. Students can either purchase a KS3 History textbook (Collins Stage 3 History Books 1: 1066-1750; ISBN 9780007345748) or use online resources to complete homework tasks.

If notice is given in advance of a lesson that a student will not be able to attend, a video recording will be made (with only the teacher visible), to be temporarily available after the lesson.

Course Details

Term 3 covers covers the rise of Lollardy in England, the European Reformation, and religious change in Tudor England and other parts of the British Isles to 1600. It comprises 10 weekly lessons. Each lesson lasts 50 minutes.

This PX Classroom is held on Thursdays at 10.30am (London time zone), starting on Thursday, 1st May April 2025. There will be no lesson during the half-term week which commences 26th May. The last lesson is due to be on 10th July 2025.


