Course Overview
This one-year course is for students who have a prior knowledge of basic French grammar and vocabulary. It covers all the main French tenses and builds up an extensive vocabulary enabling students to express opinions and learn about various aspects of French life. There are lots of opportunities for speaking and listening due to the small class size. It is an ideal preparation for the Independent Schools Examination Board’s Common Entrance Exam at 13+ (ISEB CE at 13+) and for the PX Classroom IGCSE French course.
Course Method
The course uses the textbooks French for Common Entrance One (second half) and French for Common Entrance Two, which are published by Hodder Education and endorsed by the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB). These textbooks should be procured in advance (ISBN 9781471867170 & 9781471867248).
Lessons are friendly and interactive, encouraging all students to ‘have a go’. They include a blend of written, spoken, and aural practice with clear, structured, grammatical instruction.
Homework is set from the textbook with weekly grammatical exercises (self-marked) and skills-based tasks with teacher feedback via Google Classroom. Students will be expected to record and learn topic-based vocabulary each week. The weekly home-study normally takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.
