Course Overview
This one-year course is a clear and simple introduction to French. It covers the essentials of French grammar and vocabulary. There are lots of opportunities for speaking and listening due to the small class size. This course does not require any prior knowledge of French. It is an ideal preparation for the Common Entrance Exam at 13+ and, when followed by the PX French KS3 Level 2 course, for the PX IGCSE French course.
Course Method
The course uses the textbook French for Common Entrance One, published by Hodder Education and endorsed by the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB) (ISBN 9781471867170). This textbook should be procured in advance.
Lessons are friendly and interactive, encouraging all students to ‘have a go’. They include a blend of written, spoken, and aural practice with clear, structured, grammatical instruction.
Homework is set from the textbook with weekly grammatical exercises (self-marked) and skills-based tasks with teacher feedback via Google Classroom. Students will be expected to record and learn topic-based vocabulary each week. The weekly home-study normally takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.

Term 2 comprises 12 weekly lessons. Each lesson lasts 50 minutes.
