Course Overview
This course covers the content and essential skills for KS3-level English Literature. It is ideal preparation for the PX IGCSE English Literature Classroom. It is a one-year course and ideal for children who are at least 11 years old.
The aim of the course is to help students appreciate good literature, including being able to identify and comment on poetic and literary devices (e.g. alliteration, personification etc.). It investigates themes, characterisation, and techniques the writer has used to create suspense and readership appeal.
Course Method
Class notes and poems are distributed in advance. Short answers and annotations are filled in during class, but longer answers will be set for homework. A copy of the novel (Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden) and Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar will need to be acquired in advance.
Lessons are friendly, interactive, and focus on thinking skills. Videos, sound clips, and slides are presented and discussed during the class.
A summary video recording (with only the teacher visible) can be requested in advance by students who have to miss a lesson.
