Course Overview
This course is an introduction to Classical Civilisation and broadly follows the GCSE OCR specification but at a level suitable for KS3 pupils. This PX Classroom is recommended for pupils aged 12 to 14.
The course is broadly structured as follows:
- Term 1 – The Homeric World and themes in the Odyssey
- Term 2 – Myth and Religion in Ancient Rome and Greece
- Term 3 – Roman City Life
Course Method
Students must procure the following book in advance: The Odyssey retold by Geraldine McCaughrean (ISBN 9780140383096; also available in a Kindle version).
This class is held on Zoom and makes use of Google Classroom as a learning platform. Learning resources include videos, worksheets, and the study of ancient sources in detail. Due to the nature of these sources in Ancient Rome and Greece, some nudity may be expected in the form of statues, paintings, and illustrations.
A short, written homework is set each week (about 30 minutes in total).
Course Details
Term 1 comprises 12 weekly lessons. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes.
This PX Classroom is held on Wednesdays at 1.30pm (London time zone) starting from Wednesday 10th September 2025. There will be no lesson on 29th October due to the half-term break. The last lesson is due to be on 3rd December 2025.
