Course Overview

This course covers the content for the Higher IGCSE Mathematics specification. It is a two-year course intended for students who have already built a solid foundation in all KS3 Mathematics topics, since this is essential for success in IGCSE.

The PX IGCSE Mathematics Classroom provides live teaching and workshop support and content that is designed to meet the particular needs of the students. The emphasis is on thinking mathematically and developing a “toolbox” of different approaches to problem-solving. The course uses past paper questions throughout to improve exam technique and familiarise students with the format of the final assessment.

Course Method

It is a requirement that, before this course is purchased, the student must have already demonstrated by means of the PX Maths Skills Check that they are already working at an appropriate level in Mathematics to be able to benefit from the Classroom. The PX Maths Skills Check is further explained and available for purchase here. This pre-course assessment also helps the Teacher to tailor the teaching on each topic.

Students will also need a scientific calculator and their own copy of Edexcel International GCSE Complete Revision and Practice (ISBN 9781789080711), published by CGP.

Written homework tasks are set each week and are self-marked. Weekly activities set on the MathsPad website enable students to further consolidate and extend their learning. Topic tests are completed every four to six weeks and marked by the Teacher. Two days after each lesson there is an optional Drop-In Workshop session to provide extra help for those who would like it. There is no extra charge for this workshop. The cost of Term 4 includes a full mock exam set and marked by the Teacher.

The lessons can be temporarily recorded on video and made available to students who miss the lesson due to sickness, provided the Teacher is informed before the lesson. Please note that, for an improved learning experience, students are asked to turn their cameras on during the lesson. If there are reasons why this would not be appropriate, please contact the Teacher directly.

Course Details

Term 6 comprises 6 weekly lessons, providing revision up to the second IGCSE Maths exam. Each lesson lasts 90 minutes with a short break in the middle.

This PX Classroom is held on Mondays at 11.30am (London time zone), starting from Monday 12th April 2027. There will be no lesson on 3rd May due to the Bank Holiday. The last lesson is due to be on 24th May 2027.

The optional Drop-In Workshop is held from 8am to 8.30am on the Wednesday following a lesson.
