Course Overview

This course covers content for the Pearson Edexcel History GCSE specifications. It is a two-year course and does not require any prior knowledge, although it is useful to have an interest in the subject and an understanding of dates/centuries/basic chronology.

Year 1

  • Paper 1: Crime and Punishment from AD1000 to the present day.
  • Paper 2B: King Richard and King John.

Year 2

  • Paper 2P: Superpower Relations.
  • Paper 3: One of the following, depending on the preference of the group: Weimar and Nazi Germany OR The USA 1945-75 OR Mao’s China.

Course Method

This course is taught using Google Meet and Google Classroom. PowerPoints and any other resources needing printing are shared prior to the lesson.

All students will need the relevant Edexcel GCSE textbook for the unit being taught (four books in total for the duration of the course). These textbooks are the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) series published by Pearson. They vary in price from just under £20 new for the longer Paper 1 and Paper 3 courses, to about £14 for the Paper 2 options. However, they can be purchased second-hand quite easily at a much cheaper price. More details are provided prior to the course commencing.

Homework will vary each week and will involve using the textbook, past papers, or doing additional reading and research. Practice papers will be completed at the end of each unit. All homework and practice questions are marked by the teacher who is also an experienced and current Pearson examiner.

Lessons are friendly and interactive with lots of discussion and debate but no obligation to say anything. A recording is made of each lesson and upon request can be made temporarily available to a student who missed the lesson.
