Course Overview

This PX Classroom follows the GCSE OCR specification. This one-year course is suitable for able students aged 14 and above who show ability in English Literature and History. The course covers the GCSE syllabus in just one year and so requires a substantial amount of independent reading and study. Exam entries are at the Teacher’s discretion and there may be times when it is advised that a student take an extra year to understand the material to the required depth. It is the customer’s own responsibility to find an exam centre offering OCR examinations.

The course structure is as follows:

  • Term 1: The Homeric World and themes in the Odyssey.
  • Term 2: Myth and Religion in Ancient Rome and Greece.
  • Term 3: Revision techniques and past paper questions.

Course Method

This PX Classroom is held on Zoom and also makes use of Google Classroom as a learning platform. Learning resources include videos, worksheets, and the study of ancient sources in detail. Due to the nature of sources in Ancient Rome and Greece some nudity may be expected in the form of statues, paintings, or illustrations in resources. This class is recommended for pupils aged 14 plus.

Students must procure the following textbook in advance of the first lesson: OCR Classical Civilisation GCSE Route 1 (ISBN 9781350014879).

Students will be expected to complete around two hours per week of independent study and homework for this subject.
