Course Overview

Terms 3b to 6 of this course cover the full content of the A2 component of Economics, leading to either the Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel examination. PX A2-Level Economics is a one-and-a-third-year course and assumes that PX AS-Level Economics (Terms 1 & 2) has already been mastered.

For a student of average ability, A2 Economics will require about 7.5 hours of self-study each week in addition to the three hours of lessons.  As with the AS-Level, it is essential that students possess an interest in current affairs and watch or read the news on a regular basis.

Course Method

Comprehensive class notes are distributed to students in advance of lessons. Students must possess of a copy of A-Level Economics: Complete Revision and Practice (CGP; ISBN 9781782943471). At some point in the course, students may be expected to purchase an additional textbook. Homework will be set on a weekly basis and self-marked. Tests compiled from past exam papers are set on completion of each topic and are marked by the Teacher.

Lessons are interactive, focusing on achieving excellent understanding of the course content, developing good economic methodology, and developing the critical and analytical thinking skills necessary for further study in Economics. Students will be expected to learn to communicate ideas clearly, both on paper and orally, and to critically assess the worldview assumptions that underpin the contemporary study of Economics.
